Property Development and Construction Supervision

In the past few years, land development and construction projects have grown dramatically in Atlantic Canada. Strum has worked hard to fill that need. Our geotechnical services group and environmental permitting and planning specialists have filled that role.

Geotechnical projects range from planning and design of foundation requirements, earthworks and site plans, to tendering and site supervision through all phases of construction. Our field technical staff is well versed in all aspects of construction monitoring and materials testing services including soil compaction testing, asphalt and concrete testing at building sites throughout Atlantic Canada. Clients include architectural firms, national chains, developers and contractors, and consultants.

Working in  tandem with  our geotechnical team are our environmental approvals specialists. Experience in assessing for environmental constraints to development at large commercial and residential projects is critical. Many of these sites are valued in the tens of millions of dollars. Delays in construction schedules caused by having to wait for stream crossing permits, erosion controls plans and wetlands approvals can be costly. In some cases, refusal to gain approvals after the fact can reduce project economics significantly.

In a world of ever changing environmental regulations and constraints, Strum has emerged as a leader in bridging the gap between attaining environmental acceptances and seeing the development through on time and on budget. Strum focuses on meeting those regulatory requirements while working to control costs. Seeing those developments through requires in depth understanding and specific knowledge of many complex issues, such as development on slate rock, wetlands assessment, watercourse alteration approvals and soil erosion programs development. Strum has very knowledgable staff capabilities with specialties in biology, chemisty, hydrogeology and engineering that allow these projects to proceed cost effectively and with haste.
