Radar Base Decommissioning

Strum was retained to assess and develop a decommissioning plan for a Radar facility. The facility was formerly developed as a radar base and subsequently converted to residential use. The facility included 13 large structures including a fire station, radar communications center, hospital, gym and chapel and approximately 50 married quarters. The Hazardous Materials assessment involved detailed research, extensive sampling and assessment and evaluation of buried tanks and associated soil and groundwater impacts. The program identified asbestos in gyproc, plaster, sprayed on insulation and attic based vermiculite insulation. As part of the overall project, a renovations and decommissioning plan was established for the site to coincide with upgrades on portions of the site with demolition elsewhere. Tenders were written, called and executed with Strum personnel acting as project managers throughout the project.
