HRM Water Supply Approvals

Strum provides water supply feasibility studies for clients undergoing large residential and commercial development projects within HRM but beyond the central servicing core.

These studies involve completion of extensive research in the project area related to surficial and sub surface geology, hydrogeology and existing water supply details. HRM requires these studies in advance of granting approvals for open space residential developments.

These investigations look at the minimum size of lots required, the amount and quality of water that can expected in various study areas and the potential for long term negative impacts on the water supply in and around the development. The studies dictate the number of wells and pump tests required for further phases of investigation. Strum can assist in coordination of water supply studies, in supervision and documentation of well construction and pump testing programs and in attaining all stages of Level I and Level II studies and subsequent approvals for HRM or Community based water supply projects.  Strum can also assist in developing a strategy to implement the well testing procedure to spread out capital costs and recover those costs later. Also, Strum will undertake the complex calculations required to evaluate alternatives to dug or drilled wells, such as infiltration galleries, cistern supplies or combination systems.

Similar water supply studies have been conducted across Atlantic Canada related to a wide range of developments, including community supplies, residential developments, golf courses and commercial undertakings.
