During and following a massive tire fire, Strum developed a comprehensive external air quality-sampling program to evaluate threat to humans in the community surrounding the fire. Assessment of VOC, metals, mercaptan, visual smoke and other parameters were recorded in detail over time. Sampling protocol involved development of multiple site sampling posts, variations in techniques to accommodate variations in wind direction, temperature and humidity and long term evaluations in air quality parameters versus ambient conditions.
