Hazardous Materials AssessmentAsbestos LaboratoryStrum offers in-house asbestos analytical services for material and air samples. Strum asbestos specialists have undertaken weeks of intensive training at the McCrone Institute in Chicago, Illinois. Through this training, these staff members are certified to utilize a variety of techniques to identify and quantify asbestos. Strum's facilities include a laboratory equipped with a polarizing light microscope (PLM) for bulk asbestos analysis. Samples are analyzed in this area to determine the type and concentration of asbestos. Examples of bulk materials that are analyzed for asbestos content include pipe insulation, wall plaster, floor tiles, and a variety of joint compounds. Our facilities also include a mobile laboratory for on-site Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM) fibre air analysis. We are able to deploy this station to any construction site or asbestos abatement work zone to provide on-the-spot air sampling results. The Strum laboratory has established chain of custody, storage and archival procedures for samples.
